Pay-cycle conversions

Convert gross pay across common Australian pay periods.

For most Australian roles, an annual salary can be translated into weekly, fortnightly and monthly gross pay using weekly hours and paid weeks. Change those assumptions if your contract uses a different working pattern.

For a full after-tax result, take the annual salary from this converter and use the Australian Salary Calculator.

Formula and example

Last reviewed: 10 June 2026.

Hourly rate = annual salary / paid weeks / weekly hours. Annual salary = hourly rate x weekly hours x paid weeks. The default 38-hour work week is a common Australian full-time assumption, but you can change it.

Worked example: $90,000 divided by 52 paid weeks and 38 hours per week is about $45.55 per hour. The same salary is about $1,731 weekly, $3,462 fortnightly and $7,500 monthly before tax.

Official context: Fair Work explains hours of work and the maximum weekly hours framework. This page converts gross pay only; it does not check awards, rosters or take-home tax.

FAQ

Should I use 37.5 or 38 hours?

Use the hours in your contract or award. The calculator defaults to 38 hours because that is a common full-time reference point.

Does this show take-home hourly pay?

No. This is a gross conversion. The main salary calculator estimates after-tax take-home pay.
