How the estimate works

Last reviewed: 10 June 2026.

The calculator applies resident tax brackets, then subtracts the Low Income Tax Offset where eligible. It adds the Medicare levy and optional HELP repayment after income tax.

For salary-first questions, use the Australian Salary Calculator. For payroll withholding by pay cycle, use the PAYG withholding calculator.

Formula and example

Total estimated tax = resident income tax after LITO + Medicare levy + optional HELP repayment. Net income = taxable income minus that total.

Worked example: on $90,000 taxable income in 2025-26, the calculator estimates $17,788 income tax and $1,800 Medicare levy. With HELP selected, it adds about $3,450, giving total tax and repayments of about $23,038 and net income of about $66,962.

This is an income-tax estimate, not a tax refund, tax return or deduction optimiser.

FAQ

Is PAYG withholding exactly the same as final income tax?

No. PAYG withholding is collected during the year. Final income tax is assessed when you lodge your tax return.

Does this include deductions?

No. Enter taxable income after any deductions you want reflected in the estimate.
